Agricultural and horticultural businesses are entitled to an excise duty exemption for professional consumption of energy products. This results in savings on your energy bill, so it is highly recommended that you apply for the exemption.
How do you apply for the exemption?
Below, we repeat the procedure as published on the Boerenbond website:
Fill in the application form. Do this using the step-by-step plan that you will find in the explanatory notes on applying for excise duty exemption. PLEASE NOTE: If you want to apply for an exemption for electricity and natural gas for CHP, you must fill in two application forms: one for electricity and one for natural gas for CHP.
Send the application form to the Regional Directorate of Customs and Excise by email or registered letter. See the appendix for the correct address for your region.
Now you have to wait until you receive your “Energy Products and Electricity Licence” from the Customs and Excise Administration.
What do I need to provide to Yuso in order to apply the exemption to the invoice?
Once you have received the “Energy Products and Electricity Licence”, fill in the model letter. Send the completed model letter with a COPY of your “Energy Products and Electricity Licence” to invoices@yuso.com
Does the exemption also apply to past invoices?
Yes, any excess amounts paid in the past (up to 3 years ago) will be refunded.
How can I check whether the exemption has been applied correctly to the invoice?
You can check whether the excise duty is mentioned on the invoice. Below is an example where only the Flemish Energy Tax is mentioned under “Surcharges, taxes and excise duties”.
