Withthegrid now YUSO Certified for the Belgian market

.

We are proud to announce that Withthegrid is now also YUSO-certified for the Belgian market. We congratulate the entire Withthegrid team on this important milestone in unlocking flexibility within the Belgian electricity system.

Starting now, SME's can manage their local flexibility using the Teleport (Withthegrid's controller) in combination with YUSO’s control system. This powerful combination helps companies utilize their energy assets optimally and flexibly.

An experienced duo in flexibility management, from kW to MW

Both YUSO and Withthegrid have many years of experience in managing and optimizing flexibility.

Withthegrid is originally a Dutch company based in Utrecht and has been a well-established player in flexibility management for years, including for large and small batteries in the Netherlands. The need for flexibility has increased significantly in recent years, partly due to growing grid congestion. As a result, it is becoming increasingly difficult for companies to obtain a new or higher-capacity grid connection.

For example, the grid operator for—not coincidentally—the Utrecht region recently announced that only residential customers can still obtain a connection. Businesses, on the other hand, are facing rejections of their capacity requests or wait times that can be as long as ten years.

YUSO is a leading player in the commercial operation of battery systems and facilitated the integration of the first large-scale battery systems in Belgium. In 2022, the Waregem-based company began operating three Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Belgium, connected to the transmission grid, with a total power of 100 MW and a capacity of 300 MWh.

In addition to these large-scale projects, YUSO has also become the preferred partner for BESS control systems at businesses (Commercial & Industrial, C&I segment) in recent years. For example, in 2025, the majority of new BESS installations at SMEs were commissioned with a YUSO control system. The C&I segment has experienced strong growth since the energy crisis of 2022.

How YUSO and Withthegrid found each other: A Major BESS Project in the Netherlands

Withthegrid and YUSO got to know each other during the integration and certification of a major BESS project in the Netherlands. Withthegrid supplied the Energy Management System (EMS), which enables YUSO to monitor the system’s key performance indicators in real time and subsequently control the installation in a targeted manner.

This laid the foundation for further collaboration between the two companies and now makes it possible to offer the combination of Withthegrid’s local EMS technology and YUSO’s market-oriented control system on the Belgian market as well.

"Choosing a high-performance EMS is crucial when integrating any flexibility project. After all, the EMS is the final—but essential—link in the control chain. No matter how good your control signal or bidding strategy may be, if the BESS fails to follow it correctly due to poor integration with the EMS, your revenue model will be directly impacted. We are therefore particularly pleased that we can now add Withthegrid to our list of certified EMS suppliers.”

About Withthegrid: A Pioneer in Energy Management for a strained grid

Withthegrid was founded in Utrecht in 2016 and, thanks to its Teleport Gateway, has grown into one of the most experienced EMS providers in the Netherlands. The Teleport is a local energy management system that can now monitor and control more than 450 types of energy assets, ranging from solar farms and wind turbines to large and small battery systems.

Withthegrid built up this expertise in one of Europe’s most overloaded power grids. Since January 2024, the Netherlands has required a Real-Time Interface (RTI) for every new solar farm, wind turbine, or battery with a capacity exceeding 1 MW. The technology was developed in collaboration with the Dutch grid operators Stedin, Alliander, and Enexis. The Teleport Gateway is the country’s first certified RTI customer endpoint and ensures that customers remain within their limited grid limits.

Withthegrid now manages more than 2.5 GW of flexibility, including one of the largest battery systems in the Netherlands.

That experience with grid congestion makes the partnership with YUSO particularly relevant for the Belgian market as well. In the Netherlands, Withthegrid enables traders to trade flexibility through market-based congestion platforms such as GOPACS. Now that similar marketplaces for local flexibility—such as NODES and picloFlex—are also gaining traction in Belgium, Withthegrid brings valuable experience and technology to help Belgian SMEs prepare for these opportunities in the best possible way.

"We’ve watched grid congestion increase in the Netherlands for years, and Belgium now starts encountering the same challenge: businesses need flexibility to keep expanding. We built the Teleport for this type of case. We enforce grid limits, enable peak shaving, and allow Yuso to turn the flexibility into extra revenue. Together, we expect to give Belgian SME’s the same result Dutch businesses already have."

Working together to enter the Belgian C&I segment

With this certification, YUSO and Withthegrid are taking the next step in their partnership, which extends beyond a single project. For SMEs investing in a battery or other flexible energy system, the combination of a proven EMS and an experienced implementation partner means lower integration risks and faster access to the energy markets.

YUSO expects that this combination, just as in the Netherlands, can become the preferred solution for the rapidly growing C&I segment in Belgium.
