A standalone battery (or standalone BESS - Battery Energy Storage System) is a battery system with the following characteristics:
It is an independent battery storage system that operates separately from local production or consumption
It is mainly used to support the electricity grid and energy trading
It is located on its own connection to the electricity grid
It contrasts with an embedded battery, which is integrated with local production and/or consumption and primarily aimed at improving energy efficiency on site, supplemented by imbalance control.
